Since August 16, Alameda County firefighters have been actively engaged in firefighting. The SCU lightning complex fire is now the second largest fire in California history. The fire is now 95% contained. Many of the fires started in south Livermore and the Sunol area.
Currently, Office of Emergency Services (OES) Strike Team 2870C has relocated from the CZU lightning complex and is starting their 4th operational period. At this writing, 2870C was on Day 15 since leaving the County. The firefighters have been providing structure protection to the communities on the northside of the CZU complex. They have been constructing indirect fire handlines in steep terrain under the canopy of 100+-year-old Redwood trees tying in firelines where the dozers cannot maneuver. All crew are healthy and continue to provide the maximum effort when called upon. The City of Emeryville applauds their efforts and extends our sincerest appreciation!
