[ARCHIVED] An Update from Mayor Patz

Dear Emeryville Community,

The entire City Council and I are committed to everyone’s health and safety. City staff and I have been in regular contact with the Alameda County Health Department, California Department of Health, and federal authorities. I want to commend City staff for their quick actions. We have closed all non-essential activities but city staff and our dedicated public safety officers continue the essential work of the city. This includes the closing of play structures while leaving parks open to allow for much needed outdoor time.

Please check out this infographic which provides an easy-to-digest summary of the key changes in the recently announced Public Health order, which went into effect on March 31st

Please remember to practice social distancing of at least six feet when you are out in public. This includes when you are using open space, in line at Trader Joe’s, Pak-n-Save, Target, or other local stores. Local restaurants are open for take-out and some are still delivering, so enjoy good food while supporting our neighborhood eateries.

The impact of this crisis will have a lasting impact on our country. Locally, we continue to discuss how to help those most impacted financially. The city is constantly updating our website with the latest information and links to supports available to those that have lost their job and small businesses struggling during the shutdown.

Everything we have done will shape the outcome of this crisis, and save lives if we stay calm, care for one another, and stay focused on protecting our community. That is why we must follow the guidelines laid out by public health officers, continue addressing local needs, and put the health and safety of the most vulnerable first in every choice we make. Emeryville and the Bay Area have endured difficult situations before, and our strength, resilience, and heart saw us through then, and will do so again.
