The Emeryville City Council has selected Christine Daniel as its new City Manager. The Council will vote to appoint Daniel to the permanent role at its meeting on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018.
Currently, Daniel is an Assistant City Administrator for the City of Oakland, California. She supports the Mayor and the City Administrator in overseeing service delivery in a city of 426,000 people with 4,000+ employees and an annual budget of approximately $1.4 billion. She has directly overseen the Public Works, Transportation, Housing & Community Development, and Human Services Departments and is also responsible for coordinating citywide homeless services and programs including encampment management. As Assistant City Administrator, Daniel previously acted as Oakland’s Finance Director overseeing the Treasury, Controller and Revenue & Taxation bureaus, as well as Human Resources, Employee Relations and Information Technology. Prior to joining the City of Oakland, Daniel was the City Manager for the City of Berkeley, and previously its Deputy City Manager. She was also the Deputy City Manager for the City of Fremont and prior to that served in the City Attorney’s Offices for both Fremont and Berkeley.
Emeryville Mayor John J. Daniel is scheduled to start in early October. She will be paid an annual salary of $221,448. The appointment ends a 3-month long search that garnered almost 30 candidates from all over the country.
