CONSTRUCTION NOISE – COURTESY NOTIFICATION
Union Pacific Railroad Maintenance Project
Dear Emeryville Resident:
Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) will be replacing more than 16,000 railroad ties between the cities of Emeryville and San Pablo. The tie installation project began on April 1st, 2018 with an anticipated completion date of May 23rd, 2018. This project is being done as part of the annual maintenance work across UPRR's network. Due to the commuter schedule in the area, the work can only be performed at night during a curfew from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Please note that the City does not have any jurisdiction over Union Pacific Railroad and therefore City regulations such as the Noise Ordinance, which governs construction hours, and procedures for obtaining a waiver from the Noise Ordinance do not apply to UPRR projects. Impacts to residents may include bright lights, construction noise, and train horns.
UPRR states the following regarding this project: "Nothing is more important to Union Pacific than the safety of our employees, customers and the communities we serve; therefore, ensuring that our tracks and crossings are safe for trains to traverse through is a priority. We apologize for the inconvenience and noise impacts to local residents. Our engineers will work diligently to complete the project during its scheduled time frame."
