Project Description

The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) seeks your input on the proposed cleanup plan, called a draft Removal Action Workplan (Draft RAW).  This Draf RAW is for the PG&E's property, located at 4525 Hollis Street in Emeryville (Facility).  The roughly 8-acre property supports PG&E's regional operations.  PG&E will conduct all cleanup work under DTSC oversight.

Facility investigations have identified the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil, soil vapr and growndwater in a localized area.  Also, elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and metals in soils were detected at various locations throughout the Facility.

The Draft RAW proposes the following activities to address contamination at the Facility:

1. Conducting soil vapor extraction and treatment to remove VOCs from soil and soil vapor;
2. Introducing granulated iron into the ground to reduce VOC concentrations in growndwater;
3. Using building floors, exterior pavement, clean soil, etc. as a protective cap over contaminated soil; and
4. Preparing a deed restriction and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Agreement for the Facility to prevent future contact with contaminated soil and growdwater.

Public Comment Period

DTSC invites you to review and comment on the Draft RAW and related California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents during the public comment period from March 20 to April 18, 2017.  Please send all comments to:
