6:00 PMNOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Emeryville City Council, at a meeting on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, will hold a special study session commencing at 6:00 PM, or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, in the City Council Chambers, located at 1333 Park Avenue, Emeryville, CA, to consider the following item:
Study Session On Fair Workweek / Employee Scheduling Ordinance.
The City of Emeryville is considering development of a Fair Workweek Ordinance. The ordinance would potentially require employers to:
Provide 2-3 weeks advance notice of work schedules to employees.Provide “predictability pay” for work schedule changes that occur within the advance notice period.Offer additional hours to existing part-time employees before hiring new employees.Allow employees to decline back-to-back closing and opening shifts without retaliation.City of Emeryville staff has completed a survey of retail and food service employees, interviewed store managers and business operators, and held an Employer’s Forum to solicit input from the business community.
