Upcoming Construction: Work on the East side bridge foundations has commenced. Pile Driving for the East side is scheduled to commence approximately May 13 and should be complete by end of May/beginning of June. After piles have been placed for the east side structures (Bridge Support, East Ramp, East Stair, and a new short span bridge across Temescal Creek Channel) the contractor is expected to begin soil remediation work within the Horton Landing Park area.
Ghilotti Construction will need to perform unscheduled work on Saturday 2/22/2020 and Sunday 2/23/2020 to relocate a storm drain between the Bay Street South Garage and the Union Pacific Railroad Property. Work will begin no earlier than 8:00 a.m.
The storm drain must be relocated as its existing location will interfere with the placement of footings and supports for the West Ramp.
The contractor’s work was delayed due to the discovery of undocumented underground objects found during construction. This weekend work is being authorized to allow the Contractor to get back on schedule with regard to installing the West Ramp footings.
The crane located at the east end of Ohlone Way is expected to move to the south side of Temescal Creek Channel early next week. Necessary pile driving for West Ramp footings will begin as soon as is practicable the week of 2/23/2020.

On Wednesday, February 12th, Mayor Christian Patz, Vice Mayor Dianne Martinez and City Council Member Ally Medina, along with representatives from partner agencies, City staff and other interested parties, gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony for the South Bayfront Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge Project. Work on the project, which will ultimately allow pedestrians and cyclists to access Bay Street by crossing the span above the railroad tracks, began in early January. The new Horton Landing Park will be built on the east side of the train tracks and will be a new addition to the Emeryville Greenway. Pathways in the park will connect the bridge to adjacent streets at Horton Street, just south of 53rd Street and near Stanford Avenue. The greenway within Horton Landing Park will connect to a future greenway that extends southward to Sherwin near Halleck Street.
The project is currently scheduled to be completed at the end of October 2021.
Weather permitting, Pile Driving along Ohlone Way will now begin the week of January 27, 2020. Once started work will proceed as quickly as possible. Work will advance along the proposed West Stair, then move to West Arch Span support at the very end of Ohlone Way, then move to the West Ramps supports between the Bay Street South Garage and the UPRR tracks. Pile Driving work on the West Side is currently expected to continue to the end of March 2020.
After Pile Driving Work is completed near the Bay Street Shopping Center, the equipment will be moved to the Horton Landing Park site to begin foundation work on the East side of the UPRR tracks. Pile Driving Work, in total, is expected to finish at the end of May 2020.
Construction noise is permitted from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Monday through Friday.
Beginning Wednesday, January 22, 2020 - weather permitting - a crane for the anticipated pile driving will be delivered and erected at Bay Street. Ohlone Way will be narrowed down to one lane for approximately 2 days to allow for the delivery and installation of the crane, with a full-time Traffic Controller. Please plan alternate routes accordingly. Pile driving is expected to begin Friday, January 24, 2020.

Starting January 6, 2020, Ghilotti Construction will begin physical work to construct the South Bayfront Pedestrian Bicycle Bridge project which includes construction of Horton Landing Park. Initial work will be located along Ohlone Way within the Bay Street Shops and Residences and will be about constructing reinforced concrete stairs and ramps to the Span over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Some related work will involve relocating storm drain and a short segment of a Sanitary Sewer Main between the South Bay Street Garage and the Union Pacific Property.
