Bus Shelter

Current Call

The City of Emeryville is currently seeking artists working, attending school or living in Emeryville for commission of four original works celebrating an expanded notion of flora and fauna, for installations in four Bus Shelters located throughout Emeryville, for four months. Works, after exhibited in the shelters may be displayed in City facilities. Selected artists are provided half size copies of the four works and $1,000 per original image ($4,000). Shelters Included

 The Bus Shelter Public Art Program expands the reach of the City’s Art in Public Places Program to four bus shelters.  The shelters included in the program are at:
  • Hollis Street and 63rd Street (Southwest corner on Hollis south of 63rd Street)
  • 40th Street and Emery Street (Northwest corner 40th west of Emery Street)
  • Powell Street at Commodore Street (Southwest side of T intersection on Powell)
  • Shellmound Street at Bay Street (Southwest side of T intersection on Shellmound Street)

Flora & Fauna

Through a juried process, 9 artists were initially chosen to create images based on the theme of “Flora and Fauna,” a reference to the rich plants and wildlife that underscore Emeryville’s urban environment. After this first juried phase was completed a second phase was initiated in 2012 adding another 6 local artists to the program.

Current Installations

The City is currently displaying six artists living or working in Emeryville for four months each between January 2015 and December 2016. The schedule for the Phase III installations is as follows:
